Nat. Pflanzenfam. I(3): 1232. 1909. Rhynchostegium brevipes Broth & Par., Rev. Bryol. 33(1): 26. 1906. Type. China: Shanghai, Zi Ka Wei, Henry s.n. (holotype H).
Plants slender, yellowish green, not glossy, prostrate, in small patches. Stems irregularly branched; branches 3–4 mm long, simple or branched again, erect. Stem leaves and branch leaves appressed when dry, secund when moist, narrow at base, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate above, 1.2 mm × 0.5 mm; branch leaves shorter and narrower than stem leaves; leaf margin plane, serrate; costa single, ending at 2/3 length of leaf; median and upper leaf cells elliptic, thin-walled, not clearly pitted; alar cells quadrate, in several rows. Dioicous. Perichaetial leaves rather small, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, ecostate. Setae 1.1 mm long, laevigate; capsules oval-cylindrical, 1 mm long, curved when dry; opercula with short beaks; peristome double; exostome teeth lanceolate; endostome segments as long as the teeth. Calyptrae not seen. Spores not seen.
