Ecology: Dry inter-Andean valleys at least in Bolivia and probably dry montane forest; on soil. Elevation: 1000-2600 m (Peru 1000-2050 m, Bolivia 1540-2600 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes (Peru and Bolivia).

Bryum spininervium is a large plant with oblong leaves, broad acute-rounded apex, recurved and unbordered margins, and rather long excurrent costa. Distinct are the irregular dentate toothed upper leaf margins. The type collection was made by Herzog from Florida de San Mateo (Department of Santa Cruz) at 2000 m.
Bryum spininervium es una planta grande con hojas oblongas, ápices ancho agudo-redondeados, recurvados y márgenes sin borde, y costa bastante largo excurrente. La porción distal de los márgenes de las hojas son conspicuamente dentados de forma irregular. La colección tipo fue realizada por Herzog en Florida de San Mateo (departamento de Santa Cruz) a 2000 m.
