Ecology. Upper Yungas and Tucuman-Bolivian montane forest, humid to sub-humid sites; on shrubs, trunk and branches of trees. Elevation. 2900-3600 m elevation. Distribution. Bolivia: Cochabamba, La Paz. World range: endemic to Bolivia.
 
Ecología. Bosque montano superior de Yungas y Tucumano-Boliviano, sitios húmedos a sub-húmedos; sobre arbustos, troncos y ramas de árboles. Altitud. 2900-3600 m. Distribución. Bolivia: Cochabamba y La Paz. Distribución mundial: endémica de Bolivia.
 
Cryphaea hygrophila is characterized by the ovate leaves, rather bluntly acute apcies, relatively short costa extending 1/2 the leaf length, elliptical (3-4:1) median and upper lamina cells, and very short (< 0.09 of leaf length) awn of the inner perichaetial leaves. The type of C. hygrophila wes was collected by Germain in 1889 from Choquecamata (Department of Cochabamba). Synonyms include Cryphaea hortonae León V., C. hygrophila Müll. Hal. var. nitens Müll. Hal., and C. microspora Herzog; also included is the invalid name Cryphaea ruficalyx Herzog.
 
Cryphaea hygrophila se caracteriza por las hojas ovadas, ápices muy obtusamente agudos, costa relativamente corta extendiéndose hasta media hoja, células mediales y superiores de la lámina elípticas (3-4:1), y aristas de las hojas periqueciales internas muy cortas (< 0.09 de la longitud de la hoja). El tipo de C. hygrophila fue colectado por Germain en 1889 en Choquecamata (departamento de Cochabamba). Los sinónimos incluyen a Cryphaea hortonae León V., C. hygrophila Müll. Hal. var. nitens Müll. Hal., y C. microspora Herzog; también incluyen al nombre inválido Cryphaea ruficalyx Herzog.
