Plants robust, brownish green, often glossy. Main stems reddish brown, ca. 10 cm long or longer, with numerous innovated branchlets yearly, irregularly branched or sub-pinnately branched; branches broadly spreading, with a piliform apex; pseudoparaphyllia foliose, forked. Stem leaves imbricate, oblong-ovate, abruptly constricted into a long-acuminate apex, strongly concave, rarely plicate, ca. 4.0 mm × 1.5 mm, cordately clasping at base, reddish brown; margins serrate, sharply toothed above; costae double, thin or weak, disappearing at 1/3 the leaf length or shorter; branch leaves smaller than stem leaves, ca. 2.0 mm × 0.8 mm; margins serrate; median leaf cells linear, 50–65 µm × 4–5 mm, thin-walled, not clearly pitted; basal cells rectangular, 40–55 µm × 5–7 mm, thick-walled, pitted. Inner perichaetial leaves lanceolate, gradually long-acuminate at apex, ca. 3.0 mm long, ecostate, margins serrulate; paraphyses numerous. Setae 10–25 mm long, twisted, reddish brown; capsules suberect or inclined, oblong-ovoid, 1.8–2.2 mm × 1.0–1.3 mm, with a small apophysis, slightly furrowed when dry; annuli differentiated; opercula conic, rostrate, 1.0–1.2 mm long; exostome teeth ca. 0.65 mm long, brownish below; endostome segments as high as the teeth, perforated; cilia 2, shorter than segments. Calyptrae cucullate, ca. 3 mm long. Spores 15–22 µm in diameter.
