Ecology: Puna; on soil. Elevation. Bolivia: 4200-4400 m. Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes.
 
The two syntypes of this species (Brotherus in Herzog 1916) were collected by Herzog from Llavetal (Department of Cochabamba). This species is characterized by the small plant stature, stems to 3 mm high, seta to 6 mm long, capsules pendent, peristome with a rather high basal membrane, smooth, appendiculate segments, and abbreviated cilia.
 
Los dos sintipos de esta especie (Brotherus en Herzog 1916) fueron colectados por Herzog en Llavetal (departamento de Cochabamba). Esta especie se caracteriza por las plantas pequeñas, tallos hasta 3 mm de alto, setas hasta 6 mm de largo, cápsulas pendientes, peristoma con una membrana basal bastante alta, lisa, segmentos apendiculados y cilios cortos.
