Notes:
Ecology: Mid to high open montane and páramo; often in disturbed sites, on soil and rock. Elevation: 2100-4850 m (Venezuela:? m, Colombia: 2100-2900 m, Peru: 2300-4400 m, Bolivia: 2600-4850 m). Distribution: Widespread, but not common (Mexico, Central America, Andes, Alaska, Asia, Himalayas and Europe).
 
Molendoa sendtneriana is distinguished by lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, sometimes ovate-lanceolate or oblong leaves ca. 1-1.2 mm, acute to obtuse apices; subpercurrent to percurrent costa with ventral surface cells differentiated, unistratose lamina but with bistratose patches. Synonyms include Anoectangium andinum Mitt., A. calidum Mitt., Molendoa boliviana Broth. in Herzog, M. boliviana var. brevifolia Herzog, M. excelsa (Mull. Hal.) Broth., M. herzogii Broth. in Herzog and M. subobtusifolium Broth..
 
Molendoa sendtneriana se distingue por las hojas lanceoladas a lineo-lanceoladas, algunas veces ovado-lanceoladas u oblongas ca. 1-1.2 mm, ápices agudos a obtusos; costa subpercurrente a percurrente con células diferenciadas en la superficie ventral, lámina uniestratificada pero con parches biestratificados. Los sinónimos incluyen a Anoectangium andinum Mitt., A. calidum Mitt., Molendoa boliviana Broth. en Herzog, M. boliviana var. brevifolia Herzog, M. excelsa (Mull. Hal.) Broth., M. herzogii Broth. en Herzog y M. subobtusifolium Broth.
