Plants medium-sized, 1–3 cm high. Stems usually simple. Leaves oblong-lanceolate or narrowly oblong, 3–8 mm long, undulate, acute at apex, toothed at back in oblique rows, strongly crisped when dry, erect-spreading when moist; margins bordered with 1–2 rows of elongate cells, mostly double-toothed; costa subpercurrent; lamellae in 5–10 rows, (2–)5–11 cells high; median and upper cells small, irregularly isodiametric or rounded quadrate, lower cells quadrate or slightly longer. Dioicous. Capsules solitary, cylindrical, somewhat curved; opercula long obliquely rostrate. Spores small, spherical, 9–15 µm in diameter, minutely papillose.
