general taxon notes:
Neckeropsis boniana is similar to N. moutieri (Broth. & Paris) M. Fleisch., but differs by the intramarginal borders that disappear near the leaf apex and by the broader leaf apices.

Plants slender, yellowish green, somewhat glossy, in loose mats. Primary stems creeping, with a few rhizoids; secondary stems erect or ascending, sparsely branched, to 6–8 cm long, 1.5–2.5 mm with leaves; oval or nearly rounded in cross section, epidermal cells small, thick-walled, in 4–5 layers, surrounding large, hyaline, thin-walled medullary cells; central strand lacking; pseudoparaphyllia not seen. Stem and branch leaves similar, complanate, pseudotetrastichous, flexuose when dry, spreading when moist, oblong-lingulate to broadly lingulate, slightly asymmetric, 0.8–1.0 mm × ca. 0.4 mm, narrowed at the base, obtusely acute or apiculate at the apex; margins irregularly serrulate above, entire below, often incurved on the proximal side; costae single, strong, nearly percurrent; upper leaf cells polygonal to irregularly oval, 4–8 µm × 2–4 µm, thick-walled; median and basal cells somewhat elongate, thick-walled, often bordered intramarginally by 2–3 rows of narrowly rectangular cells along leaf margins except at the leaf apex. Sporophytes not seen.
