Notes:

Ecology: Humid and semi-humid puna; on soil and rocks. Elevation: 2790-4900 m (Peru: 3600 m, Bolivia: 2790-4900 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes (Peru and Bolivia).
 
Fissidens andicola is characterized by the leaf margins entire or weakly serrate at the apex, bordered throughout or ending just below the apex, costa short excurrent or subpercurrent, laminal cells smooth, bulging, seta1-2, capsules cylindrical, peristome teeth erect, papillose throughout. This species was originally described as Simplicidens andicola by Herzog (1909: 58) from Valle de Llave, department of Cochabamba. Simplicidens plumula Herzog, from Vilocotal (department of La Paz), is a synonym.
 
Fissidens andicola se caracteriza por los márgenes de las hojas enteros o débilmente serrados en el ápice, completamente bordeados o terminando justo debajo del ápice, costa corto excurrente o subpercurrente, células de la lámina lisas, abultadas, setas1-2, cápsulas cilíndricas, dientes del peristoma erectos, completamente papilosos. Esta especie fue descrita originalmente como Simplicidens andicola por Herzog (1909: 58) por una colección realizada en el Valle de Llave, departamento de Cochabamba. Simplicidens plumula Herzog, proveniente de Vilocotal (departamento de La Paz), es un sinónimo.
