Notes:

Ecology: Subpáramo to páramo; in boggy habitats, in part along lake shore. Elevation: 3050-3700 m (Colombia: 3050 m, Ecuador: 3700 m). Distribution: Endemic to the tropical Andes (Colombia, Ecuador). Assigned to section Cuspidata.

Ecología: Subpáramo a páramo; en sitios pantanosos, parcialmente a lo largo de orillas de lagos. Elevación: 3050-3700 m (Colombia: 3050 m, Ecuador: 3700 m). Distribución: Endémica para los Andes tropicales (Colombia y Ecuador). Asignada a la sección Cuspidata.

Sphagnum curvatulum is similar to S. cuspidatum but differs by branches not distinctly tapered, stem and branch leaves fibrillose with small, round pores on both surfaces, mostly window-like due to the congruence of pores on both surfaces (Crum, 1993).

Sphagnum curvatulum es similar a S. cuspidatum pero se diferencia por las ramas no claramente atenuadas, hojas de tallos y ramas fibrilosas con poros pequeños, redondeados en ambas superficies, generalmente con apariencia de  ventanas debido a la congruencia de los poros en ambas superficies (Crum, 1993).

Plants small, yellow. Stems pale-yellow, cortex 2-layered, fibrils and pores absent, wood cylinder poorly differentiated from the medulla, very pale yellow. Stem leaves ovate-oblong, 1.3-1.7 mm, concave, apex acute, margins entire, border not noticeable broadened below; hyaline cells fibrillose in the upper 1/2-2/3 or nearly to the base, not or rarely divided, on the outer surface with 1-5 small but conspicuous, round window pores, mostly at or near the upper ends, on the inner surface 1(-3) similar pores. Branches in fascicules of 3 (1 pendent), somewhat curved, not particularly tapered, branch retort cells poorly differentiated. Branch leaves curved-secund, not undulate when dry, oblong-lanceolate, 1-1.2 mm, concave; on the inner surface with 3-6 small, round window pores or pseudopores, mostly at corners; in cross-section green triangular-trapezoidal, exposed on both surfaces, narrowly on the inner, more broadly on the outer cells, hyaline cells convex on the inner surface, ± plane on the outer surface. Crum 1993.

Plantas pequeñas, amarillas. Tallos amarillo-pálidos, corteza biestratificada, sin fibrillas ni poros, cilindro leñoso poco diferenciado de la médula, amarilla muy pálida. Hojas del tallo ovado-oblongas, 1.3-1.7 mm, cóncavas, ápices agudos, márgenes enteros, borde ensanchado imperceptiblemente en la base; células hialinas fibrilosas en 1/2-2/3 superior o casi hasta la base, no o rara vez divididas, superficie externa con 1-5 poros ventana pequeños pero conspicuos, redondeados, generalmente en o cerca de los extremos superiores, superficie interna con 1(-3) poros similares. Ramas en fascículos de 3 (1 pendiente), algo curvadas, no particularmente atenuadas, células lagenifomes de las ramas poco diferenciadas. Hojas de las ramas curvado-secundas, no onduladas en seco, oblongo-lanceoladas, 1-1.2 mm, cóncavas; superficie interna con 3-6 poros ventana redondeados pequeños o pseudoporos, generalmente en los ángulos; en corte transversal células verdes triangular-trapezoidales, expuestas en ambas superficies, poco en la superficie interna, más ampliamente en las células externas, células hialinas convexas en la superficie interna, ± planas en la superficie externa.
