Notes :
Ecology: Moist or wet lowland to premontane forest; on logs and base of trees. Elevation: 150-1100 m (Colombia: 150-1100 m, Peru: 150-900 m, Bolivia: 200-380 m). Distribution: Widespread in the Neotropics mostly at low elevations; also United States (Florida).
 
Ecología: Bosque amazónico a premontano; sobre troncos en descomposición y bases de árboles. Elevación: 150-1100 m (Colombia: 150-1100 m, Perú: 150-900 m, Bolivia: 200-380 m). Distribución: Amplia distribución en el Neotrópico generalmente a altitudes menores; también Estados Unidos (Florida).
 
Pelekium schistocalyx is characterized by the 2-pinnate plants, 5-8 celled high stem paraphyllia, differentiaed sized stem and branch leaves, distinctly long ciliate upper perichaetial leaf margins, papillose seta throughout, inclined to pendent capsules.
 
Pelekium schistocalyx se caracteriza por las plantas bipinnadas, paráfilos del tallo con 5-8 células de alto, hojas de tallos y ramas de diferente tamaño, porción superior de los márgenes de las hojas periqueciales conspicuamente largo ciliados, setas completamente papilosas, cápsulas inclinadas a pendientes.
