Ecology: Atlantic coastal forest; presumably epiphytic. Elevation: 10-50 m. Distribution: Central America (Costa Rica, Panama) and Venezuela. Frequency: rare.
Groutiella maracaibensis is characterized by the lanceolate leaves to 3 mm, apiculate to cuspidate apices, strongly excurrent costa, and marginal border less than 1/2 the leaf length. The type collection is from Maracaibo; presumably a coastal elevation would be about 10-50 m, however all the recorded collections from Central America have been made between 1000 to 1500 meters (Allen 2002).
