Plants small to medium-sized, yellowish green above, blackish below, in dense, wide tufts. Stems erect, 1–2 cm long, irregularly branched; rhizoids few, only at the very base; central strand absent. Stem and branch leaves similar, erect to erect-flexuose when dry, spreading when moist, narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, 2.0–3.5 mm × 0.5–1.0 mm, long acuminate at the apex; margins entire, recurved above the base; costae ending shortly below the apex; upper leaf cells polygonal, oval, or shortly rectangular, 6–12 µm long, thick-walled, mostly unipapillose; lower cells becoming elongate toward the base, rhomboidal to long rectangular, 10–58 µm × 6–20 µm, smooth, thick-walled; alar cells not differentiated. Gemmae not seen. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves narrowly ovate-lanceolate. Setae 2.2–3.5 mm long; capsules long exserted, oblong-ovoid, with a small, puckered mouth when dry; opercula not seen; annuli not differentiated; stomata immersed; peristome single, highly reduced, in 8 slender segments, papillose. Calyptrae large, hairy. Spores 18–23 µm in diameter, finely papillose.
