Plants forming dense tufts, green to reddish-brown, or terminal shoots green and reddish-brown below. Stems erect, to 3.5 cm tall, few branched by innovations, fragile; in cross-section hyalodermis present, outer3-4 rows of cells small, thick-walled, central strand present; thinly radiculose below. Leaves crowded, distally erect-incurved to widely incurved when dry, wide-spreading when wet, lanceolate from a sheathing obovate base, 2.8-3.8 mm long, apex bluntly acute to rounded; margins plane below, inflexed and broadly channeled above, entire; costae single, strong, subpercurrent, in cross-section stereid bands above and below guide cells; lamina distally bistratose, distal sheath and limb cells thick-walled, smooth or bulging; limb cells mostly irregularly subquadrate, 8-10 µm long/diameter, smooth or indistinctly papillose; lower and basal sheath cells differentiated, inner juxtacostal cells forming a distinct group, enlarged, rectangular, hyaline and fragile; marginal cells appearing to form a border of thick-walled narrow rectangular or fusiform cells. Dioicous ?. Perichaetia terminal; inner leaves sheathing seta, oblong-ovate, to 2 mm long. Setae elongate, to 20 mm long, twisted. Capsules erect, urn obloid, to 2 mm long, smooth when dry; annuli compound, 2-3 rows, deciduous in parts; opercula long-rostrate, 1.1-1.3 mm long; peristome apparently absent. Calyptrae not observed. Spores 14-16 µm in diameter, lightly papillose.
