Annotation: Miers cited both as "unguis" but unguis L. (Syst. Nat. 10) is abbrev. form of "unguis-cati" Sp. Pl.
Nomenclature Reason: Orth. var.: the basionym for this combination was cited as "Doxantha unguis: Bignonia idem. Linn., ....Plum. Amer. tab. 94". Thus this seems a clear reference to the basionym with a spelling error, which does not invalidate the name (Art. 33.2) but does need correction.
