Glabrous trees or shrubs with alternate leaves. Flowers in terminal or cymes, bracteate. Calyx 5-partite. Corolla tube short, the limb with S lobes. Stamens 5; anthers exserted. Ovary bilocular or incompletely 4 former with 2 ovules per locule. Style terminal, stigma capitate. Fruit a Seeds 2 or 4.
