Description Stemless herbs. Leaves densely utriculate-rosulate, entire, minutely appressed- lepidote, green, the sheath large. Scape conspicuous. Inflorescence usually bi- pinnate, rarely simple or tripinnate, exceeding the leaves, its branches polystichous- flowering. Flowers small or minute, usually sessile or nearly so, perfect or -func- tionally dioecious. Sepals free, usually rounded and asymmetric, glabrous. Petals free, naked. Stamens included, unequal so far as known, anthers ovate or elliptic. Ovary superior, broadly ovoid or ellipsoid; style shorter than the ovary or wanting; ovules few to several, long-caudate. Capsule septicidal. Seeds with coma apical and folded over, their bases projecting from the capsule.
