Annual, small herbs. Leaves sessile, amplexicaul, basal leaves petiolate, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, toothed to sinuately lobed. Capitula homogamous, ligulate, small. Receptacle naked. Involucre small, pyriform-globose. Phyllaries 2-seriate, unequal; outer ones 5, free; inner ones firmly connate into a hard shell covered with spines, apex open with free apical foliaceous part of  phyllaries. Ligules yellow, exserted from open top of connate part of involucre. Cypselas dimorphic, outer ones adnate to involucre, compressed, muricate above, little curved; beak short; pappus absent or forming 5-toothed crown.

A small genus of 2 species (Mabberley, 2008), distributed in Central Asia, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Represented in Pakistan by the following species.
