Shrubby dioecious, rarely monoecious plants with an erect to decumbent straggling or a scandent habit. Leaves reduced. Male strobili 2‑4 or clustered at the nodes; anther dehiscence porose. Female strobili 2‑4 per node; each strobilus with several pairs of bracts. Ovule(‑s) terminal, inner integument terminating in an exserted tube (tubillus). Sees 1‑2.
