Downie et al. (2004) recently have shown that the single Asian species included in Perideridia by some authors, P. neurophylla (Maxim.) T.I. Chuang & Constance, is only distantly related to the North American members of the genus and should be reclassified in a different tribe of Apiaceae in the monotypic genus Pterygopleurum Kitag.
