Name derivation: from Greek eurus, broad, and carpus, fruit, in reference to the broad fruits of the type species.

Type species: E. lanuginosus (J. D. Hooker & Thomson) Botschantsev (based on Parrya lanuginosa J. D. Hooker & Thomson).

     Herbs, perennial, scapose, woolly to pilose; caudex slender, few branched. Trichomes simple mixed with stalked 1-3-forked ones. Multicellular glands absent. Stems erect, simple from rosette. Basal leaves petiolate, rosulate, simple, entire; cauline leaves absent. Racemes several to many flowered, dense, ebracteate, corymbose, elongated slightly in fruit; rachis straight; fruiting pedicels slender, divaricate, persistent. Sepals oblong, free, deciduous, erect, equal, base of inner pair not saccate. Petals purple, erect at base with flaring blade, longer than sepals; blade spatulate, apex obtuse; claw subequaling sepals, glabrous, unappendaged, entire. Stamens 6, included, erect, tetradynamous; filaments wingless, unappendaged, glabrous, free; anthers oblong, not apiculate at apex. Nectar glands 1, confluent and subtending bases of all stamens, median nectaries present, lateral nectaries annular. Ovules 8-20 per ovary; placentation parietal. Fruit dehiscent capsular silicles, oblong, elliptic, ovate-oblong, or ovate-lanceolate, strongly latiseptate, not inflated, unsegmented; valves papery, obscurely veined, glabrous, not keeled, smooth, wingless, unappendaged; gynophore obsolete; replum rounded, visible; septum complete or reduced to a rim, membranous, tansluscent, veinless; style to 0.5 mm, subconical, persistent, glabrous; stigma capitate, entire, minute, unappendaged. Seeds biseriate, wingless, oblong, plump or sligtly flattened; seed coat minutely reticulate, not mucilaginous when wetted; cotyledons incumbent or accumbent.

Two species: China (Tibet), adjacent Kashmir.
