General/Distribution: A genus of 600 tropical and sub-tropical species. Four species are reported from W. Pakistan.

Semi-parasitic shrubs. Leaves opposite or alternate. Flowers sub-sessile, bisexual, in axillary racemes or fascicles. Calyculus fringe-like, adnate to the ovary. Perianth 4-5, petaloid, free or united into a tube. Stamens epiphyllous, opposite the perianth. Ovary unilocular. Fruit a berry.
