25. Cinna L. (wood reed)

(Brandenburg et al., 1991a)

Four or 5 species, North America to South America, Europe, Asia.

Tucker (1996) included Missouri in the range of Cinna arkansana (Nutt.) G.C. Tucker, Ozark grass, but thus far no specimens have been discovered to verify its presence in the state. This species, which is often segregated as Limnodea arkansana (Nutt.) L.H. Dewey, differs from other species of Cinna in its annual habit, shorter stems, and long‑awned lemmas (8–11 mm). It occurs from Florida to Arkansas, Texas, and adjacent Mexico.
