Type-Protologue
Locality: In the Mimbres Mountains, near Georgetown, in 1877, and on Swan Mountain, near Silver City, 1880; flowering from May to October
Collector and Number: E.L. Greene s.n. [two collections]
Distribution: USA (New Mexico)
Institution(s): not indicated
Note: Cohen, Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 103: 254, 2018 designated one of the specimens he considered to be syntypes as a neotype, and this specimen has a label that does not correspond to the localities given in the protologue but may be original material. Cohen then also cited several "syntypes" of this name, some of which have labels that match his supposed neotype and others of which have labels from both 1877 and 1880 that match the protologue's citations. There seems to be no basis on which to designate a neotype, given the abundance of original syntypes. At best this designation may be a lectotype, but it is problematic in that various other specimens match the protologue citations but his designated specimen does not.
