Details: Toxicity: Thermopsis montana is acutely toxic due to alkaloid content, and closely related species that have been included by some taxonomists with T. montana in a broadly defined T. rhombifolia may well have similar toxicity (Burrows & Tyrl 2001). Other species in the U.S. are of limited range and favor habitat that is less exposed to grazing animals, so the lack of reports of toxicity do not establish safety.
