Low shrubs. Stems much branched, woolly at nodes. Leaves alternate, sessile, fleshy, semi-terete or flattened. Flowers small, hermaphrodite, axillary, solitary, 2-bracteolate. Perianth with 5 membranous lobes; tubus (lower part of the perianth) indurated and thickened in fruit, furnished with small, somewhat horn-shaped, hard protuberances. Stamens 5; filaments broad, exserted; anthers linear-sagittate; staminodes 0 or rudimentary. Style 2-partite into 2 subulate stigmas. Fruit included in the woody perianth, more or less globular, somewhat depressed, with membranous pericarp tightly adherent to the tubus. Seeds horizontal.
