Tall shrubs or trees. Leaves alternate serrate, 3-nerved at the base, young branches and leaves scabrid. Flowers unisexual or bisexual or polygamous in small axillary fascicles. Male flowers: Perianth 4-5-lobed, stamens 4-5, opposite the perianth, filaments erect, longer than perianth lobes. Female flower: Perianth same as in male flower; ovary sessile on wooly disc; style terminal, 2-fid, linear. Fruit a small, ovoid or subglobose drupe with persistent calyx.
