Annotation: Chrtek, J. 1965. Bemerkungen zur Gliederung der Gattung Trisetum Pers. Bot. Not. 118(2): 210–224. Also nom. cons. prop. – Quintanar (2010) in Taxon 59(5): 1602–1603, Prop. (1947 [1969]) Proposal to conserve Trisetum against Trisetaria (Gramineae) [unresolved 2016] declined by General Committee
Type Specimens
  • LT: Avena flavescens L. LT designated by Hitchcock, U.S.D.A. Bull. 772: 107-109 (1920); confirmed by Committee for Spermatophyta, Taxon 36: 75 (1987); See also Veldkamp (1983, Prop. 710, 271), and Committee report (1987), noting Besser (1827) might have have confined the genus to several annuals (including T. parviflorum), while placing T. flavescens in Acrospelion. Link (1827) cited T. parviflorum for Trisetum, and placed T. flavescens in Avena, but he was only dealing with a the few species in his herbarium of those recognized by Persoon (1905). The Committee (1987) concluded that Hitchcock's lectotypifcation can stand, and there is no need for conservation. Quintanar (2010) proposed that Trisetum be conserved over Trisetaria, but the General Committee eventually declined the proposal (2016).
