Evergreen shrubs, usually with thorns. Leaves simple, alternate, stipulate. Petioles short or leaves sessile. Inflorescence a terminal or axillary corymb. Flowers bisexual, hypanthium infundibuliform. Sepals 5, persistent. Petals 5, white or pink. Stamens 15-25. Ovary inferior. Carpels 3-5, free at apex, 2 ovules per carpel. Fruit a red, orange or yellow globose pome, with stony endocarp and persistent, incurved sepals.
A genus of about 3 to 8 species, distributed in SE Europe and Asia; represented in Pakistan by 1 species.
