General/Distribution: A genus of 11 Australian species, introduced in Asia, and less commonly in Africa and America. Represented in Pakistan by 2 cultivated species.

Trees, with entire or palmately lobed leaves. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, solitary raceme or panicle. Flowers actinomorphic, unisexual or bisexual or both on the same plant. Calyx 5-lobed, lobes usually spreading. Petals absent. Stamens 10-15. Carpels 5, syncarpous, free at maturity; ovary 5-loculed; stigma peltate, radiate or lobed. Etaerio of follicles stalked, woody. Seeds numerous, biseriate, enclosed within thick, honey-comb like endocarp.
