General/Distribution: The genus includes about 15 species distributed mainly in South Africa, Tropical East Africa and Arabia. Represented in Pakistan by one cultivated species.

Shrub or small tree. Leaves coriaceous, obliquely penninerved. Inflorescence an axillary subracemose, clustered cyme with sessile to subsessile flowers. Flowers white or pink, fragrant. Sepals 5, free, eglandular. Corolla 5-lobed, hypocrateriform; throat dilated; tube cylindrical. Stamens 5, attached at apex of the tube; anthers lanceolate-ovate, obtuse or acute, not connivent with stigma; connective larger than the anther, and projected into a point. Disc absent. Style filiform; stigma oblong, 2-lobed. Ovule 1-4 in each locule. Fruit berry, globose 1-2 seeded.
