General/Distribution: A genus with 2 species, occurring naturally in Africa, one species is widely cultivated and naturalized in tropical regions of both hemispheres.

Shrubs. Leaves stipulate, stipules small; petiolate, pinnately trifoliolate, leaflets with yellow glands. Inflorescence a terminal panicle together with axillary racemes. Calyx 5-lobed, upper pair jointed. Vexillum auriculate, more or less round. Stamens diadelphous, 9+1, anthers uniform. Ovary 4-6-ovuled, velvety pilose, style thick above, flattened below, stigma capitate. Pod linear-oblong, inflated, 3-7-seeded. Seeds rounded, compressed.
