Erect perennial herbs with stout rootstocks and branched stems. Leaves long petioled, mainly radical, orbicular-cordate or reniform. Inflorescence a panicle. Flowers bisexual. Perianth sagments 4, accrescent in fruit, outer segments spreading or reflexed, inner ones erect. Stamens 6, filaments short. Ovary compressed; styles 2, short, divergent; stigmas fimbriate. Fruit lenticular, broadly winged. Seed with linear-oblong cotyledons.
