Herbs perennial, cespitose, rarely scapose, not pulvinate; caudex simple or several branched. Stems 3–17(–24) cm, unbranched, pubescent throughout with 4–10-rayed trichomes 0.1–0.3 mm, often some rays branched, simple trichomes usually present, fewer, to 0.7 mm. Basal leaves rosulate, oblanceolate to narrowly obovate, 4–23(–30) × 1.5–6.5 mm, entire or rarely with 1 tooth on each side; both surfaces densely pubescent with minutely stalked, 8–12-rayed stellate trichomes 0.2–0.4 mm, sometimes surfaces with a few coarser simple or 2-rayed trichomes; midvein distinct abaxially, petiolar base ciliate with simple trichomes 0.2–0.8 mm; cauline leaves of flowering stems absent or 1(–3), ovate or oblong to lanceolate, entire, sessile, pubescent as basal leaves. Racemes ebracteate, 3–18(–25)-flowered, elongated in fruit; rachis pubescent as stem, not flexuous; lowermost fruiting pedicels (1.5–)2–6 mm, divaricate-ascending or ascending, straight, pubescent with stalked stellate and sometimes fewer simple trichomes. Flowers: sepals ovate, 2–2.5 mm, with short-stalked, 2- or 3-rayed and simple trichomes; petals white, spatulate to obovate, 3.5–6 × 1.8–2 mm; anthers ovate, 0.3–0.4 mm. Fruits oblong to lanceolate, (5–)6–11 × 2–3 mm, slightly flattened, not twisted, pubescent with short-stalked, 2–5-rayed trichomes 0.05–0.3 mm and with some rays branched; style 0.1–1 mm; stigma distinctly wider than style; ovules and seeds 20–32 per fruit. Seeds ovoid, flattened, 0.8–1.1 × (0.6–)0.7–0.8 mm, wingless. 2n = 80.

Habitat: clay flats, gravel, beaches, limestone outcrops, talus.
Elevation: sea level–450 m.
Distribution: Canada (Nunavut), Greenland, Norway (Svalbard).
