Draba mogollonica Greene, Bot. Gaz. 6: 157. 1881. TYPE: U.S.A. New Mexico, Mogollon Mts, 18 Apr 1880, Edward L. Greene s.n. (holotype, NDG). No specimen with that date has been located at NDG. Instead, an excellnt specimen dating 20 April 1880 is in that herbarium, with a duplicate at MO. It is likely that the date given in the original publication is an error. If so, then the sheet at NDG with the 20 April 1880 collection must be the holotype. A duplicate at K exists but the collection date is 19 Apr 1880.

Herbs annual, biennial, or rarely short-lived perennial. Stems (6–)12–28(–36) cm, usually few branched, pubescent proximally with a mixture of simple trichomes 0.3–1.3 mm and 2–4-rayed trichomes 0.1–0.6 mm, glabrous distally. Basal leaves rosulate, petiolate, spatulate to obovate or oblanceolate, (1.5–)3–8(–10) × 0.7–2.5(–3.3) cm, dentate to denticulate; both surfaces pubescent with long-stalked, cruciform and much fewer 2- or 3-rayed trichomes 0.1–0.6 mm; petiole obsolete to 2 cm, densely pubescent with simple and 2–4-rayed trichomes, not ciliate; cauline leaves of flowering stems 1–3, oblong to ovate, entire, sessile, pubescent as basal leaves. Racemes ebracteate, 12–40(–51)-flowered, elongated in fruit; rachis glabrous or rarely proximally with a few trichomes, not flexuous; lowermost fruiting pedicels (6–)9–18(–22) mm, horizontal to divaricate, straight, glabrous or rarely sparsely pubescent as lower stems. Flowers: sepals oblong, 2.5–3.5 mm, sparsely pubescent with simple and 2–4-rayed trichomes; petals yellow, spatulate, (5–)6–8.5 × 2.2–3.5 mm; anthers oblong, 0.7–0.9 mm. Fruits linear-elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, 6–19 × 2.5–3.5 mm, flattened, slightly twisted, glabrous or pubescent with simple and short-stalked, 2(–4)-rayed trichomes 0.07–0.3 mm; style (0.8–)1–2.2 mm; ovules and seeds 24–36 per fruit. Seeds oblong, flattened, 1–1.4 × 0.7–0.8 mm, wingless. 2n = 22.
