Larecaja, vicinity of Sorata, valley between Las Tuncheras de Chiliata and Berge Illampa, 3800 m, Sep 1858, G. Mandon 895 (holotype, P!; isotypes, B!, BAA!, BM!, F!, G!, GH!, K!, LE!; NY!, S!].

Aschersoniodoxa rusbyi O. E. Schulz, Notibl. Bot. Gart. Berlin-Dahlem 10:115. 1927. TYPE: Bolivia, Depto. La Paz, Alaska Mine, Cordillera Real, 13,700 ft [ca. 4176 m], 1-4 Mar 1926; G. H. H. Tate 60 (holotype, B!; isotypes, BAA!, CONC!, NY!).

     Plants (4-)6-11 cm tall, with few- to several-branched caudex. Basal leaves obovate to suborbicular, rarely oblanceolate, (8-)10-25(-30) x (3-)6-10(-12) mm, densely covered on both surfaces with minute, pointed papillae 0.04-0.06 mm long, these are sometimes present on scapes and pedicels, base abruptly narrowed to a short and flattened petiole, apex rounded. Fruiting pedicels 10-15 mm long, ascending, straight to strongly recurved. Sepals ovate, 3.5-5 mm, caducous, glabrous or sometimes papillate, margin somewhat membranous, apex obtuse. Petals white, obovate, 5-6 x 2.5-3 mm, gradually tapering to base, apex rounded. Filaments 4-5 mm; anthers 1-1.3 mm. Fruit oblong to oblong-lanceolate, rarely elliptic or oblong-linear, (11-)15-28 x (3-)4-7 mm; valve apex acute to obtuse; style (0.4-)1-1.2 mm long. Seeds light to reddish brown, 1.6-2 x 1.2-1.4 mm, reticulate and the units 6-16(-20) mm in diam.

Habitat: rocks, scree, below snow.

Elevation: 3800-5200 m.

Distribution: Bolivia (La Paz).
