     Herbs biennial or short-lived perennial; caudex simple, covered with persistent leaves of previous seasons. Stems (2.5–)4–17(–25) cm, branched, pubescent throughout with simple and long-stalked, 2-rayed trichomes 0.4–1.4 mm, these mixed with smaller, 2–4-rayed trichomes 0.1–0.6 mm, simple trichomes usually fewer distally. Basal leaves rosulate, numerous, densely imbricate, short petiolate, oblong to narrowly oblanceolate, (0.5–)1–2.2(–4.5) cm × 2–5 mm, entire; abaxial surfaces densely pubescent with stalked, 2–4-rayed trichomes 0.4–1.2 mm, simple trichomes often along midvein; adaxial surfaces mostly with simple and long-stalked, 2-rayed trichomes 0.6–1.3 mm, these sometimes mixed with fewer 3- or 4-rayed trichomes; petiolar base and margin ciliate with simple trichomes 0.6–2 mm; cauline leaves of flowering stems (4–)6–10(–13), oblong to ovate, entire, sessile, pubescent as basal leaves. Racemes ebracteate or lowermost few flowers bracteate, (10–)18–55(–67)-flowered, elongated slightly or considerably in fruit; rachis pubescent as stem, not flexuous; lowermost fruiting pedicels 2–8(–12) mm, divaricate to ascending, straight, pubescent as stem. Flowers: sepals oblong, 2–2.7 mm, pubescent with short-stalked, 2–4-rayed trichomes; petals yellow, linear, 2–3.5 × 0.2–0.5 mm; anthers oblong, 0.6–0.8 mm, exserted. Fruits elliptic to oblong or linear- to oblong-elliptic, 5–13(–17) × (1.8−)2–3(–4) mm, flattened, slightly twisted or plane, pubescent with short-stalked, cruciform trichomes 0.1–0.5 mm sometimes mixed with fewer 2- or 3-rayed trichomes; style 1.4–3.4 mm; ovules and seeds 16–28 per fruit. Seeds oblong, flattened, 1–1.2 × 0.6–0.8 mm, wingless.

Flowering: Jun–Jul.

Habitat: alpine fell-fields, talus, and open pine woodlands.

Elevation: 2000–3500 m.
