Herbs, biennial or short-lived perennial, distinctly glaucous throughout. Stems 1–4.4(–6) dm. Basal leaves and lower cauline ones with petiole 1–4(–6) cm; blade fleshy, ovate or sometimes obovate, rarely orbicular or spatulate, lyrate or sinuate and repand or dentate, rarely entire, (2.2–)4–10.5(–14) ´ (1–)1.5–4.3(–5.5) cm; middle and upper cauline leaves much smaller, short petiolate, lanceolate or elliptic, entire or repand. Racemes slightly elongated in fruit; fruiting pedicels divaricate to divaricate-ascending, slender, straight or incurved, 4–12(–15) mm. Sepals oblong, spreading to reflexed, (2.5–)3–4 ´ (0.8–)1–1.5(–1.8) mm,; petals purple or lavender, oblanceolate or rarely spatulate, (2.5–)3–4.5 ´ 0.5–1 mm; filaments 2.5–3.8 mm; anthers oblong, 1–1.8 mm; ovules 32–44 per ovary. Fruits (2–)4–7.4 cm ´ 1–1.5(–1.8) mm, erect to ascending or rarely divaricate; gynophore 0.5–0.8(–1) mm; style subclavate, 0.5–1.2(–1.5) mm. Seeds (0.7–)1–1.5 ´ 0.5–0.8 mm.
