13. Thelypodium sagittatum (Nuttall) Endlicher in Walpers, Repert. Bot. Syst. 1: 172. 1842.

     Herbs, biennial or short-lived perennial, glabrous or sparsely to densely pubescent. Stems (2–)3–8(–12.5) dm, erect, branched often below and above, solid, glabrous or pubescent. Basal leaves petiole (1–)2–8(–14) cm, ciliate; blade oblanceolate to ovate, rarely oblong, (2–)6.5–20(–29) x 1–4.2(–5) cm, entire, glabrous or pubescent; middle and upper cauline leaves (0.8–)1.6–8.5(–14) × 0.2–1.3(–2.8) cm, sessile, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, amplexicaul to sagittate at base, ascending, entire, glabrous or pubescent. Racemes lax or dense, elongated considerably in fruit; flower buds ovate to lanceolate; fruiting pedicels often curved upwards, horizontal to divaricate, stout or slender, not flattened at base, (2.5–)5–11(–20) mm. Sepals ovate to oblong, erect, (2.5–)3–6(–10) x (1–)1.5–2(–2.5) mm; petals white or lavender to purple, oblanceolate to spatulate or linear, (5–)7–14(–19) x (0.5–)1–3(–4) mm, slightly crisped between blade and claw; claw (2–)3–6.5(–10) mm, slender; filaments tetradynamous, median pairs 3–5.5(–8) mm, lateral pair (2–)2.5–4.5(–7) mm; anthers oblong, (1.5–)2–3.2(–5) mm, not circinately coiled, included or partially exserted; nectar glands confluent, subtending bases of all stamens, sometimes only lateral; ovules 20–62 per ovary. Fruits (1–)1.3–5.2(–6.9) cm x (0.5–)0.8–1(–1.2) mm, erect, terete or rarely 4-angled, straight or slightly incurved, forming an arc with pedicel, torulose; gynophore stout, 0.5–1(–2) mm; style cylindrical, 0.5–1.5(–3.3) mm; stigma entire. Seeds flattened, (0.7–)1–1.3(–1.5) x 0.5–0.7(–1) mm.

Flowering: May–Aug.

Habitat: alkaline grounds and flats, meadows.

Elevation: 1300–2750 m.

Distribution: United States (N Colorado, C and  S Idaho, SW Montana, Nevada, Utah, C Washington, S Wyoming).

     Two subspecies.
