Description
|
Submerged aquatic herbs, the stems branching; roots wanting. Leaves ver- ticillate, finely dissected; stipules wanting. Inflorescences solitary or clustered flowers in the leaf axils; pedicels short. Flowers unisexual, minute; perianth of ca. 10 basally united segments, the staminate flowers with ca. 10 subsessile, erect stamens, the 2 thecas oblong, longitudinally dehiscent, the connective enlarged and prolonged; ovary superior, carpel 1, locule 1, ovule 1, pendant, anatropous, the placentation parietal, the style slender. Fruit a nut; seed 1, the embryo straight, endosperm wanting.
