BUXACEAE (Boxwood Family)

Five genera, about 60 species, nearly worldwide.

In temperate regions, the main use of members of the Buxaceae is for cultivation as ornamentals. Species of Pachysandra are grown as groundcovers, and various species of Buxus L. (box, boxwood), especially B. sempervirens L., are common evergreen shrubs also used in hedges.
