A much branched shrub, up to 60 cm tall; branches rigid, usually sharply tipped (in dry conditions), whitish in appearance. Leaves very variable (according to season), 5–15 x 1–5 mm, obovate-lanceolate or elliptic to linear-lanceolate, whitish-pubescent, revolute to almost fat at margins. Inflorescence simple to forked, with (3-) 6-12 flowers on each branch, often lax. Flowers small, sessile, c. 2 mm long, with yellowish petals; equal to or slightly exceeding the sepals. Sepals 1–2 (–2.2) mm long, outer linear, smaller, inner 3 elliptic, with longitudinal ribs, heterotrichous; often white-villous at base, persistent. Stamens many, uniseriate, all fertile. Capsule small, included within the calyx, villous or pubescent, ovate, many seeded.
