Herbs annual. Stems (5–)7–30(–37) cm, 1 or rarely more from base, unbranched or few branched above, pubescent proximally with simple and stalked, 2-rayed trichomes 0.4–1.3 mm, these mixed with 3- or 4-rayed trichomes 0.05–0.2 mm, pubescent distally with stalked, 2–4-rayed trichomes. Basal leaves rosulate, oblanceolate to obovate, 1–2(–3) cm × 2–7(–10) mm, entire or subapically denticulate; abaxial surface pubescent with a mixture of simple trichomes 0.6–1.3 mm and stalked, 2–4-rayed trichomes 0.1–0.8 mm; adaxial surfaces with simple and stalked, 2-rayed trichomes 0.4–1.2 mm; petiole obscure, margin ciliate with simple trichomes to 1.5 mm; cauline leaves of flowering stems 3–10(–17), lanceolate to ovate or oblong, entire, sessile, pubescent as basal leaves. Racemes ebracteate, (15–)20–51(–62)-flowered; rachis pubescent as stem, not flexuous; lowermost fruiting pedicels (2–)3–8(–10) mm, horizontal to divaricate-ascending, straight or curved upward, pubescent with simple and stalked, 2–4-rayed trichomes. Flowers: late-season flowers petaliferous; sepals oblong, 1.3–2 mm, pubescent with simple trichomes; petals yellow sometimes fading to white, oblanceolate, 1.5–3 × 0.5–1 mm; anthers ovate, 0.2–0.3 mm. Fruits lanceolate, 6–9(–11) × 1.3–2.3 mm, flattened, not twisted, pubescent with antrorse simple trichomes 0.1–0.2 mm; style 0.01–0.1 mm; ovules and seeds 32–60 per fruit. Seeds ovoid, flattened, 0.5–0.7 × 0.4–0.5 mm, wingless. 2n = 24.
Flowering: Apr–Aug.
Habitat: open forests, meadows, gravelly knolls, and disturbed sites.
Elevation: 1800–3200 m.
Distribution: United States (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah).
