Leaf blades mostly 10–18 mm wide. Lemmas 3.5–5.5 mm long,
rather thick and leathery, roughened. Anthers 1–2 mm long. 2n=40.
May–September.
Uncommon and widely scattered in northern and eastern Missouri (eastern U.S. and adjacent Canada west to Minnesota and Texas). Bottomland
forests, sinkhole ponds, ponds, margins of sloughs, and wet bases of bluffs
along rivers, often emergent aquatics.
