This species is relatively robust for Erithalis, with the corolla ca. 10-12 mm long and 15-22-locular ovaries, and is circumscribed following Adams (1975). Negrón-Ortiz (2005) circumscribed this species to include robust plants from the Lesser Antilles, but those plants are here included in Erithalis odorifera. These two species (as treated here) are similar, but separated geographically and by the smaller flowers and fewer ovary locules of Erithalis odorifera.
