This species was separated by Rogers (1984) and Dávila (2016) by its leaves that are "usually' acute to acuminate at the apex, and this feature is found in several specimens not but on all. For example, the holotype specimen at K has rounded to retuse leaf tips. This species was also separated by its waxy papillae on the upper leaf surface (Dávila, 2016: 74, fig. 4A-B).
Rogers also separated Henriquezia jenmanii by is distinct corolla pubescence, without yellow bearded internal pubescence, but this feature has not been confirmed in this review and the corollas of this species were reported to have this pubescence by Dávila.
