Perennial shrubs.Stem glabrous-partly pubescent, erect, 35 – 80 (-100) cm tall, paniculately-corymbosely branched above. Basal leaves in rosette, subsessile- attenuate at the base, 6 – 12 (-15) x 0.5 –2  cm, ½ pinnatisect- distantly lobed, entire, acute; cauline leaves sessile, linear-lanceolate, hastate-sagittately auriculate; uppermost linear, small. Synflorescence lax panicle. Capitula erect, cylindrical, 14-20 florets per capitulum, 0.8 – 2  x 0.5 – 1 cm, pedunculate. Involucre phyllaries 12-15, 4-seriate, outer phyllaries 1.5 – 3  x 1 – 1.5 mm; middle ones 4 – 7 (-9) x 1.5 – 2  mm, ovate-lanceolate, acute; innermost 11 – 16  x 1 – 1.5  mm, broad linear-oblong, acute-subobtuse.Florets blue or lavender. Cypselas 4 – 5  x c. 1.2 mm, brown- dark brown, oblanceolate, thick towards margin, finely white-pilose at the apex, with 8-10 narrow ribs on each side; beak 3 – 4  mm long, white-greenish, slender-filiform, equal or smaller than the body.  Pappus 4 – 6  mm long, yellowish-white
