Notes:

Corolla yellow.

Borhidi et al. (2017) separated 2 subspecies of Schmidtiottia elliptic based on leaf shape and size and capsule shape and size. The differences seem subtle as he described them. These were contrasted in the prologue of the new subspecies (Borhidi, 1980), but these subspecies were not keyed by Borhidi et al. (2017) and the description there of the typical subspecies does not correspond to the original diagnostic characters and seems to include some of the characters of the new subspecies. These seem to be separated also by geographic range, with the typical subspecies found in Baracoa in Guantánamo and subsp. oblongata found in Moa in Holguín.

Distribution: Dry scrub and pine vegetation on serpentine, elevation not noted but apparently low, eastern Cuba (Guantánamo, Holguín).
