This handsome, distinctive species is known from wet lowland vegetation along the Caribbean coasts of Central America, from southern Nicaragua to Panama. It can be recognized by its hirtellous pubescence, robust petiolate leaves that are truncate to cordulate at the base, and pedunculate inflorescences with the branched portion rather congested with the secondary axes in verticils of 4 or 6.
