Notes : This species of glabrous shrubs and small trees is characterized by its stems with markedly flattened internodes; its medium-sized leaves that lack domatia; its well developed calyptrate stipules that are deciduous leaving a rather large scar or persistent base; its terminal, racemiform inflorescences with reduced bracts; its short truncate to denticulate calyx limbs; and its medium-sized flowers. Coussarea sancti-ciprianii is similar to several other species of southern Central America and northwestern South America, in particular Coussarea caroliana of Costa Rica, Coussarea grandifolia of northern Colombia, and Coussarea veraguensis which is found in both Panama and Colombia.
Distribution : Wet vegetation in the Chocó region and Magdalena valley of western Colombia at 50-1200 m.
